As a boy working alongside my father, I always knew that I wanted to be a winemaker. I loved walking with him in the vineyards, the atmosphere, hard work and well-earned rest of the harvest, the smell of the cellar and of course the flavours of an occasional taste of wine. After finishing my studies I joined my father at the Hilltop winery, working my way up the ranks for eight years, beginning as a cellar hand and ending up – despite the inevitable battles and growing pains – as his equal partner. I also had the chance to work and study at the Linton Park wineries in Wellington – South Africa, as well as the Cuvaison winery in Napa Valley – California. I know I am at the beginning of something which I hope will grow through the years, but responses have been extremely positive and my energy and optimism is boundless. Life is goood!
